Weddings in Jamaica,  Dancing to the Reggae Beat Of the Island
Is Jamaica your destination wedding paradise?

If Jamaica is your wedding paradise, you can easily  make it happen.  As the islanders say "No
problem Mon."

Jamaica is a tropical island with a tropical beat. The home of the late reggae artist Bob Marley,
Jamaica's ads use the theme 'One Love, People Get Ready"'.    We love 'Jamming' ,' Is this
Love', 'Stir it Up' , just the beat of the songs defines Jamaica .The weather is tropical, the pace
is slow and relaxed.  You'll find yourself slowing down and dancing to the beat of this fun island.

The people of Jamaica make the island.  Laid back, friendly and with huge smiles, they are
eager to welcome you to their island paradise.  Although they speak English, they also speak
Patois which is a combination of English and African, European, Asian and per Columbian
languages. Its a lilting dialect, but don't worry, they speak English!

Jamaica is laden with tropical palm trees and ferns, poinciana Jamaican orchids, hibiscus,
bougainvillea, ginger lilies and even some cacti.  Jamaica also has beautiful gardens laden
with native plants. Your choices for wedding flowers are plentiful.  Inquire as to what flowers
are in season when you are there and incorporate them into your bouquet.

You've heard of Jamaican jerked cooking, its spicy tang originated here.  Blue Mountain Coffee
is grown here and of course, Jamaica is the home of rum punch.  You can dine on any kind of
seafood and it will be fresh. Cuisine will range from traditional island fare to international
cuisine.

The beauty of the island ranges from the tropical fern gullies to the amazing stretches of
beach and the Caribbean turquoise waters. You can take a bike tour of the Blue Mountains or
climb Dunn's River Falls in Ocho Rios.  You can be an Eco Tourist with special tours or do what
most people do when they go to Jamaica:  Grab a rum punch and anchor at the nearest beach
while listening to the island music.

We highly recommend you hire a wedding planner when you marry in Jamaica or arrange your
wedding at an all inclusive resort like Sandals which will make all the arrangements for your
wedding.

Marriage License:

You don't need a blood test and you need a minimum of 24 hours on the island to process your
paperwork.  If you marry at a resort, each resort has a time frame for arrival to the wedding
date and could be 48 hours in advance.  Your resort can make arrangements for your marriage
license if you submit documents to them in advance.

You'll need to bring:
Your photo ID, passport or drivers license
Your original birth certificate or a notarized copy of your birth certificate.
Divorce decree if you were previously married.
Death certificate if your previous spouse passed away
Witnesses, your resort will provide them for you if you don't have them.

If you arrive by cruise ship, you can marry on the island provided you make arrangements in
advance to have all your paperwork processed and marriage license done in advance.  Again,
hire a wedding planner or consult with your cruise line if you want to get married in Jamaica
while on a cruise.

My wife and I were married at Sandals.  It was so awesome, they did everything for us and
she didn't have time to go Bride-zilla like some of my friends wives.  Grab a Red Stripe at the
Sandals lounge in the airport.  Great way to unwind after a long trip.  We had to be in
Jamaica 48 hours before our wedding.

We honeymooned in Jamaica at Sandals.  OMG, it rocked.  Our favorite was the swim up
bar.  We slathered on the sunscreen and hit the pool everyday.  Our favorite bartender
entertained us with stories.   We checked out the other Sandals resorts and ate dinner at
two different ones.  Loved them all!

Jamaica is great, but you need to exercise caution when you leave the resorts.  Jamaica is
a poor country with a high crime rate, so we were told to be careful when we left the resort.
We did leave a few times and felt safe, but the resorts are so luxe that you don't want to
leave.  Everything you could ever want is there for you and more.  Love Jamaica!

If you go to Ocho Rios, climb Dunns River Falls.  You climb with a group and a leader and its
a fun way to spend a hot day.  Its an island must do.
